The Artscape

The Artscape Theatre Centre in Cape Town, South Africa, belongs to the provincial administration and was opened on 19 May 1971 as the “Nico Malan Theatre Centre”.

It was renamed to “Artscape” in March 2001. Shooting their official video profile for Skybok was an honour!

I personally love the Artscape and I try go see as many shows as possible there. Not to mention that I love meeting all these fantastic people behind-the-scenes who are involved in keeping everything running smoothly!

Editing for hours on end and recording all the voice overs becomes so worthwhile when the final product in done and I watch the profile of whatever venue I am busy with… whether it’s a wine farm, golf estate, nightclub, restaurant, coffee shop, hotel, school, resort or this – a theatre, as well as a point of interest, thanks to it’s huge role in the history of the Western Cape.

A big smile spreads across my face when I know I’ve done a venue justice. One of those instances was when I completed The Artscape. Thank you to everyone there for being professional, efficient and co-operative as we all collaborated to make this happen.

SAMREC

I’ve always had a thing for animals. Especially wild, endangered or hurt ones.

Along the coast in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, lies the “South African Marine Bird Rehabilitation and Education Centre”. It’s also known as SAMREC.

We shot their video profile for them and I just remember thinking what a beautiful home and haven the team at SAMREC has created for these birds they find washed up and hurt on PE’s beaches.

The centre’s purpose isn’t just to rescue and rehabilitate, but to also inform and educate the public through their different programs.Tour our marine rehab and education centre and experience nature through sight, sound and touch.

It houses a permanent exhibition of the late artist’s outstanding aviation and marine works. The gallery is located beside St. Georges Park in an Art Deco house built in 1930’s.

Ron Belling was a 20th century aviation historian and painter from Port Elizabeth,  specializing in aircraft camouflage. He also made oil paintings of  passenger liners that visited Port Elizabeth. His  library includes a collection of photographs, drawings and sketches of early buildings in Port Elizabeth, many of which have now been demolished. We were honoured to shoot their video profile for them! Enjoy :)

Nanaga Farm Stall

If you’ve never been to the  Nanaga Farm Stall………….you simply HAVE to stop and enjoy the “Nanaga Experience”. As the old saying goes; “You don’t know what you’re missing until you have had it!”

Located comfortably between rolling hills, it’s conveniently located at the intersection of three main routes, namely the N2, R10 and R72.  It lies 50km from Port Elizabeth, the Eastern Cape’s largest city.

It’s nicknamed “The Clover Leaf” because the convergence of these roads creates a clover leaf shape when viewed from the air.

If you are familiar with Nanaga, or a regular visitor, then you already know of the treasure trove of delights behind the impressive and massive front door!

We were thrilled to shoot their video profile for them, which you can check out below! They are so famous for their “Roosterbrood” – a real south african treat – not to mention their meat pies!

I always like to blog about the more interesting places we shoot for Skybok.net……..and, well, there’s no doubt that Zingela Archery in Jeffrey’s Bay is one of them!

It’s hidden along the R102 between Humansdorp and Jeffrey’s Bay in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, and is a very cool spot once you arrive.

I was certainly introduced to a whole new world I never knew existed when we came to shoot their video profile for them.

A fantastic place and a pleasure filming it!

I’ve come to learn that it is, in fact, a huge sport with a massive amount of people who love it.

This quaint 78-seater theatre located in Kalk Bay, Cape Town, was actually originally an old Dutch Reformed Church.

It was built in 1876 and is a heritage protected building.

Going there to shoot for Skybok was super – we got great weather and shooting their video didn’t take too long.

I personally love the red interior and the upstairs where patrons can eat dinner before the show.

I think it’s a super idea – dinner and a show at the same venue.

The theatre is constantly showing new and popular theatre pieces….and the idea is that patrons arrive from 6:30pm and, after reserving their theatre seats, are directed upstairs to the restaurant.

There is a set menu and the food is mainly served before the show but drinks and dessert are served after the performance.

Patrons make their way down to the theatre when the show is due to start.

Drinks may be taken into the theatre but there is no service in the theatre during the show.

We loved the owners – very friendly and professional people.

Here is their website if you’re interested in finding out more about the theatre or the shows which are currently showing there (you will also see Skybok’s logo featured on the website, directing visitors to check out their video profile, which is really nice!) —–>  THE KALK BAY THEATRE

Algoa FM is the the biggest commercial radio station from the Garden Route to the Wild Coast on 94 to 97fm.

I love the place. It’s chic & fresh and it felt rejuvenating to walk through the station filming.

We got to meet one of their most popular DJs, Lance Du Plessis, and what a fantastic guy! Easy-going and professional, he does a great job on air and has a successful reputation and a big following here in the Bay.

Everything went very smoothly on the day…. we got Lance doing his show and also some really nice shots around the station.

We didn’t get to shoot their boardroom as there was a meeting there on the day, but you can check out my blog post HERE for some snaps of it as well as some snaps I took around the station while we shot.

In my opinion everyone working there is fun-loving and hard-working.

I love the position of the station….The Boardwalk here in PE….it’a a very beautiful complex right on the beachfront. It must be a fantastic place to go to work every day! They also have a very cool website – check it out by clicking HERE.

Skybok’s team was recently in East London to shoot the video profile of The East London Golf Club.

What a beautiful place!

Tranquil and serene, it has glorious views of the ocean, not to mention a bit of wildlife wandering around the course!

I’m proud to say it’s video profile does the place complete justice.

Photos can be deceiving, but video cannot lie!

They have divine conference facilities which made me think that if I needed to organize a function or event, I would do it here.

Humewood Golf Course

Located by the seaside in stunning Port Elizabeth, South Africa, the Humewood golf course is a genuine seaside Links, ranked as one of South Africa’s top 20 golf courses and boasts as holding the prestige of being the only true links course in Africa.

Sadly, I don’t play golf. But after shooting their video profile, I think I should definitely give it a bash!

Humewood golf course has one of the world’s most difficult links courses and has hosted the South African open 5 times and the African Amateur 10 times, being ranked the number 10 golf course in South Africa.

There have been some famous names which have graced the greens and fairways of this course, including Denis Watson, Tony Johnstone and Ernie Els amongst others. I especially liked their gorgeous clubhouse!
