‘Breath-taking’ took on a whole new meaning for me  recently when I arrived at a secluded spot on a mountain top overlooking Stellenbosch vineyards.

Here in South Africa we are very well-known for our gorgeous wine regions, specifically those in the Western Cape (where I live).

Tourists flock from miles around to tour the famous Stellenbosch wine route- the first and oldest wine route in the heart of the wine producing regions! The route takes you along several winding country roads and patrons stop over at various wine estates along the way. The route represents over 300 wineries. There are a number of sub-routes to make it easier for people to travel it. They are the Bottelary Hills, Devon Valley Vintners, Helderberg and Simonsberg-Stellenbosch. The idea is that people stop off at various estates along the route and enjoy wine tasting, cellar tours, picnicking on the lawns and perhaps a lunch at what is bound to be an award-winning restaurant on the estate.

While shooting a video profile for one of the estates – Warwick Wine Estate- we were given a complimentary gourmet picnic basket and a drive in a 4×4 up a vine-covered hill.

While driving up, all I could see were fields of vineyards stretched before me and stunning views.

It was a perfect experience.

If you don’t already, I recommend that you do more of this kind of excursion – nothing beats a chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc and a killer view!

With Cuban-inspired cuisine and its famous “Che Bar”, Cape-To-Cuba is a popular restuarant to tourists and certainly to a lot of locals in Kalk Bay!

Only a 30 minute drive from Cape Town, it’s always a festive destination.

Shooting a video profile for them was an absolute delight, as their colourful interior set a very fun and vibrant tone for their video.

I loved the Cuban theme with all its decor indoors & outdoors… and I can personally vouch for their Mojitos!

Apparently Che Guevara mixed the first one ever made there himself!

“North Americans don’t understand… that our country is not just Cuba; our country is also humanity.” -Fidel Castro

It’s definitely a good place for a delicious meal or a just a total party :)

Its motto is Tria Juncta in Uno meaning ‘three joined in one’ — mind, body and spirit. The school celebrated its 150th jubilee in 2006, when over 600 alumni from around the world attended the 150th birthday celebrations. There are over 880 boys including 140 boarders. The Grey Institute also includes the attached Grey Junior School with roughly 700 pupils. We had a great time filming it!

Simonsig Wine Estate

Skybok filmed the video profile for Simonsig Wine Estate in Stellenbosch, South Africa. Simonsig is located in the heart of the Stellenbosch wine region. Travelling there to film was such a pleasure. We got a beautiful view of the Simonsberg Mountain (after which the wine estate is named), not to mention some even more lovely shots around the estate itself. They are the only wine estate with a working wine cellar, and it was fascinating watching this process!

The Music Kitchen Port Elizabeth Restaurants Music Bars If you’re looking for a great evening hot spot in Port Elizabeth, The Music Kitchen is my personal recommendation! Known for their Wednesday nights all-you-can-eat ribs and prawns, this is one of the coolest spots I’ve been to in a while.  And don’t just take my word for it – ask any local you meet.  The Music Kitchen is on Facebook so if you like what you see, join their online family HERE. They’re also on Twitter, so follow them HERE. What’s great about this place is that they provide a platform for original artists to perform. If you’re a muso in the area of Port Elizabeth, you can apply to perform and you’ll join their wall of fame which features many famous names in the South African music industry. Here’s what we shot for them:

Skybok covered events for Rotary PE West as part of their “Medieval Festival”. It’s a whole weekend of festivities themed around the Middle Ages and it’s hosted at Victoria Park in Port Elizabeth. Their “Royal Banquet” is on a Friday night where everyone arrives dressed up in costumes from the Middle Ages. There’s a dinner and lots of entertainment! During the Saturday, they host an entire day filled with arts, crafts and activities that people used to play during Medieval times.

Here are the profiles of this awesome outdoor two-day event:
