Charly’s Bakery

We recently shot at the famous Charly’s Bakery at 38 Canterbury Street in Cape Town. We enjoyed some great weather and awesome crowd shots of happy customers feasting their eyes on all the delicious treats!

Check out their awesome website here and join them on facebook here. Watch this space for their video, soon to be added to our YouTube Channel.

Located in District 6, Cape Town, Charly’s Bakery is a family run business which was begun by Charly and Jacqui Biess in 1989. It specialises in “Mucking Afazing” designer cakes for all occasions, as well as a range of fun and bright cupcakes, petit fours, cookies and other yummies.

Over the years the business has grown and their 3 daughters, Alexandra, Daniella and Roch have joined them in creating their crazy, magical, glitter-filled world of Oompa Loompas, Luf Luf and decadently Wicked Chocolate Cake.

Their philosophy is to innovate, not imitate, and that the more you give the more you’ll get ♥

Skybok at the Durban Travel Indaba!

Skybok Durban Indaba

A fresh hello as we plug in from the Durban ICC, home of the Tourism Indaba – Africa’s Top Travel Show! Skybok has enjoyed 2 full days of trade, networking and touring Durban as part of the media delegation for the convention.

We enjoyed meeting the Head of Durban Tourism, Phillip Sithole, and also the CEO of South African Tourism, Thulani Nzima

A tour of the Inanda Heritage Route organized for media was most insightful as delegates explored famous spots as part of our country’s history.

These included the home of John Dube – founder and first president of the ANC – and the home of Ghandi when he lived in South Africa for 20 years in 1894 and where he founded the Natal Indian Congress to agitate for Indian rights.

Today is the last day of the convention and we aim to make the most of it, doing some film work in between discovering dynamic businesses in the trade. See all of our photos from the Indaba here and from the Media Beach Carnival (opening night) here.

‘Breath-taking’ took on a whole new meaning for me  recently when I arrived at a secluded spot on a mountain top overlooking Stellenbosch vineyards.

Here in South Africa we are very well-known for our gorgeous wine regions, specifically those in the Western Cape (where I live).

Tourists flock from miles around to tour the famous Stellenbosch wine route- the first and oldest wine route in the heart of the wine producing regions! The route takes you along several winding country roads and patrons stop over at various wine estates along the way. The route represents over 300 wineries. There are a number of sub-routes to make it easier for people to travel it. They are the Bottelary Hills, Devon Valley Vintners, Helderberg and Simonsberg-Stellenbosch. The idea is that people stop off at various estates along the route and enjoy wine tasting, cellar tours, picnicking on the lawns and perhaps a lunch at what is bound to be an award-winning restaurant on the estate.

While shooting a video profile for one of the estates – Warwick Wine Estate- we were given a complimentary gourmet picnic basket and a drive in a 4×4 up a vine-covered hill.

While driving up, all I could see were fields of vineyards stretched before me and stunning views.

It was a perfect experience.

If you don’t already, I recommend that you do more of this kind of excursion – nothing beats a chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc and a killer view!
