Bars & Pubs

Tjing Tjing

One of Cape Town’s favourite night clubs, Tjing Tjing is a rooftop bar located just off Longstreet, Cape Town.

We got to shoot on an absolutely packed night!

It was pumping and the video came out exceptionally.

I love their colour scheme and ‘attic’ feel.

The owner is friendly and professional and I can really recommend hiring this place out as a venue for a birthday party, corporate function or business meeting.

It has a festive atmosphere and shooting their official video profile was a dream.

I enjoyed editing this and doing the voice over particularly because I enjoy the venue so much and I wanted to do Ilse Koekemoer (owner)  justice on her fabulous club!

I’m very blessed in that, through the shoots we do for Skybok, I get to travel to so many different places, meet so many different people and – best of all – see amazing things. I’m remembering now back to a place we filmed in Cape Town called Vovo Telo.

It’s a trendy little bar at the waterfront and they are really well-known for their coffees and pastries. I also love their pizzas and artisan breads. I’ve realised that the coffee culture truly has grown both here and internationally.

On the day we filmed their video profile, I just stuck to a peach iced tea. I love them and BOS is my new favourite make! How about you? Are you a coffee fiend?

Shooting the video profile of this divine coffee shop and restaurant – just off Longstreet in Cape Town, South Africa – was a pleasure!

It shares the same owner as Tjing Tjing rooftop bar, which is located above it.

I can personally recommend their cappuccinos!

An all-day brasserie, pantry and event space, this is really a nice place to host a function you’re having.

Breakfasts, lunches and afternoon nibbles are what you can expect to find here.

I love the upstairs function areas – very chic and quirky.

The Mount Nelson Hotel

Skybok’s team had the pleasure of filming Mount Nelson’s video profile here in Cape Town, South Africa.

It’s one of my favourite venues we’ve had the pleasure of profiling.

The hotel is home to many international tourists, including movie stars and travelling politicians.

Along with its high teas, it’s well-known for its brand new Planet Bar and its many ballrooms.

Shooting this was very exciting – the staff were extremely friendly and while doing it we got to witness a wedding they were having in their beautiful gardens.

For best viewing quality, make sure to set the viewing settings to 1080p HD by clicking on the cog at the bottom right-hand corner of the video below.

The reason this is one of my favourites is because The Mount Nelson Hotel offers a large variety of services to its guests – it acts as a wedding venue, a function venue, a conference venue and not to mention its fantastic spa!

I record all my voice overs with professional sound engineer Frank Smuts.

Bordering the waters of Kalk Bay’s gorgeous ocean, The Brass Bell is actually a lot bigger than I realised.

Going there to shoot their profile was enlightening because apart from the main restaurant that we all know and love (The Bikini Deck), there is also the Cabin Bar & Restaurant, The Water’s Edge Restaurant, The Pavilion and the Izannes fine dining restaurant!

Shooting was an absolute dream; the owner is very friendly and we were pleased with the great weather we got!

It’s always packed with people and I can see why.

It’s definitely a hot spot for a functions – birthday parties, cocktail parties or corporate functions – because of the great views, reasonable prices, efficient service and also because the whole area has such a rich history.

Check out their website for more info on opening times and contact details: THE BRASS BELL

Watch their video (at the top) and I guarantee you you’ll be calling them to organize your next get-together! ;)

This quaint 78-seater theatre located in Kalk Bay, Cape Town, was actually originally an old Dutch Reformed Church.

It was built in 1876 and is a heritage protected building.

Going there to shoot for Skybok was super – we got great weather and shooting their video didn’t take too long.

I personally love the red interior and the upstairs where patrons can eat dinner before the show.

I think it’s a super idea – dinner and a show at the same venue.

The theatre is constantly showing new and popular theatre pieces….and the idea is that patrons arrive from 6:30pm and, after reserving their theatre seats, are directed upstairs to the restaurant.

There is a set menu and the food is mainly served before the show but drinks and dessert are served after the performance.

Patrons make their way down to the theatre when the show is due to start.

Drinks may be taken into the theatre but there is no service in the theatre during the show.

We loved the owners – very friendly and professional people.

Here is their website if you’re interested in finding out more about the theatre or the shows which are currently showing there (you will also see Skybok’s logo featured on the website, directing visitors to check out their video profile, which is really nice!) —–>  THE KALK BAY THEATRE

Stellenbosch, Wine Farms

Warwick Wine Estate

‘Breath-taking’ took on a whole new meaning for me  recently when I arrived at a secluded spot on a mountain top overlooking Stellenbosch vineyards.

Here in South Africa we are very well-known for our gorgeous wine regions, specifically those in the Western Cape (where I live).

Tourists flock from miles around to tour the famous Stellenbosch wine route- the first and oldest wine route in the heart of the wine producing regions! The route takes you along several winding country roads and patrons stop over at various wine estates along the way. The route represents over 300 wineries. There are a number of sub-routes to make it easier for people to travel it. They are the Bottelary Hills, Devon Valley Vintners, Helderberg and Simonsberg-Stellenbosch. The idea is that people stop off at various estates along the route and enjoy wine tasting, cellar tours, picnicking on the lawns and perhaps a lunch at what is bound to be an award-winning restaurant on the estate.

While shooting a video profile for one of the estates – Warwick Wine Estate- we were given a complimentary gourmet picnic basket and a drive in a 4×4 up a vine-covered hill.

While driving up, all I could see were fields of vineyards stretched before me and stunning views.

It was a perfect experience.

If you don’t already, I recommend that you do more of this kind of excursion – nothing beats a chilled glass of Sauvignon Blanc and a killer view!

Go check out their website http://www.warwickwine.com/

Melissa’s Cape Town

We shot Melissa’s in Newlands Cape Town and had a lot of fun! Melissa’s is very well-known for their baked goods.

This cute coffee shop (one of a few they have around Cape Town) has lots to offer from Breakfast to Lunch to Afternoon Tea, and you can browse through their store while you wait for your food.
